by the river, i sat down and...

wept..

hahahahah..not exactly.

but it was here i declared to him..'next year, we shall cut down our travelling'

because it was too comfortable..

auntie's change

this morning we went out to have prata for breakfast. i paid for our breakfast to the man with a $10 note and he came back with the channge..and mumbled something as he pointed to the stack..something i couldnt hear clearly...something like "*mumble mumble change"...

but we thought we could hear a bit of it..just slightly...and..

..the saddest thing was i have to admit...it sounded like "auntie's change"!! we kept saying huh..and the guy kept mumbling the same thing..that sounded like "auntie's change"!!

.....waah..damn sad.damn sad.

it's ok if my husband or one or two of my frens call me makcik ..but not a total stranger.

did we hear clearly?

"auntie's change"

aiyo...

hahahahah

because of that...i resolved to do a few things right for next year..because i am a lil wee..just a lil bit only...disturbed that i looked like an auntie..hahahah..

with this new year i will like i always say..but i should really try now for my physical well-being. for the not wanting to look like an auntie. for the fact that i cannot deny that i am getting older:

a) exercise. saying that, i need a gym buddy and a gym recommendation. in the east. near mrt preferably. some place where there arent that many mat bodybuilding. someplace air-con..

b) go for yoga. to fix the bad shoulders and back. still looking around for classes. recommendations would be good. east or city area (bugis or cityhall)

c) buy and religously take them supplements.

d) drink more water. 1.5 litres at least. i am not that ambitous.

e) wear sunblock. moisturise

i dont take myself to be vain..so these are the very minimum things i can think of..the very minimum are already not that easy to meet..arent they?

over the weekend,

we watched kingkong. it is i guess worth all that overpriced weekend tickets. because it's 3 hours long! it's hollywood overdose. drama. actions . all the icky and romantic stuffs..but the bestest of all!! it has adrien brody! so hensem..

did i tell you the steward in my thaiairways domestic flight looked so much like him..heheheh my husband thinks so too.. anyway i cried at the end of that kingkong movie eventhough i've already know the storyline.

but that's not the most selenge thing i did...last night, i confidently walked straight to starbucks siglap without my glasses and collided straight on with the glass door with a loud bang! so embarassing..but its ok, since i was blind enough to see the door, i was also blind enough not to know who was around there and see their faces..to feel even more embarassed.

the long train ride

this was our very first long train ride. together. or ever for now. but it wasnt actually that bad. the only thing that wasnt so good was, i thought i could still hear the bell ringing in my ears way after the rides.

we got on at the main station at hualampong for the ride to chiangmai. hungry coz it was lunch time. there's a 'food court' there on the ground floor. you have to buy coupons and use these to purchase food. there is one halal food stall there.

after lunch we waited for a while more to board that choo-choo train to chiangmai from bangkok. it departed at around 2:30pm and arrived at about 6:30am. do the maths..it WAS long..so finding own means of entertainment or killing time was of absolute importance..

i read this on the train..

a few chapters of it..but i doubt i will touch it anytime soon..errmmm..maybe on another long ride.

and of course another important thing...being able to sleep at night.

which we could. thank god. it wasnt totally suffering. in fact i thought it was probably more comfortable (because we booked sleepers) than being in a long bus ride..which could always turn out more hellish..and cramped.

of course there is option of air travel..but train ride trough countryside with the country's folks sharing your space and the chance to observe their interactions..was quite an experience. we got to talk to a monk at the station..his english was good. and we were seated next to a very nice thai family with two adorable girls during the train ride back to bangkok.

our return tickets cost us about sgd37. sleeper, non-aircon.aircon isnt really necessary if you go north.but non aircon means sometimes you may just be a unlucky to be assigned an older car..like our return trip back was in an older one which seem to be like a relic from the past or at least the 80s. meal is abit tricky. you can order onboard..but we decided to have cat food. ooops...i mean canned food. canned tuna. canned salmon. pasta salmon. bread.

all about train journeys, i learnt @ www.seat61.com . very good detailed site on train travel worldwide.

this one specifically on thai train service.

A & A

we are a lil bit late but we managed to see the new addition to the family. so beautific with his amazing rambut yang lebat...so peaceful yet quite animated..so comfortable in his deep sleep..and so sweet smelling. i wish many times to be a baby like that again..heheh

and since we are not in the family way yet..we have to say we arent too bad and quite lucky to have the affection of another kid A who wanted to tag along with us today for the day and to see the littler kid A...eventhough she got so shy suddenly..

she actually isnt you know...she already loves to pose infront of the cammy..

Lanta Yai & Rok-ing On

well...uhmm ok...i am v ill disciplined..i curi masa to upload some photos..first part of our thailand trip: koh lanta. krabi

..................................................................................

krabi has a lot of attractions, the famous ones would be kohphiphi and aonang. but we chose koh lanta because it was a quiet little spot. heck, he didnt know where it was..i picked the spot, coz i prefer somewhere a lil quiet. and we got there, yet again by the budget tiger airways..we dint mind, as i mentioned..anything below 2 hrs, budget is fine, and the fares fitted our pockets even more fine.

so there..go to koh lanta, if you have been to phiphi and aonang and IF you like things a lil quieter..some place to chill, without having too many tourists or backpackers around. but actually a number of backpackers seem to drop by here for some cool down and chilling if krabi and the andaman happen to be in their last leg of thailand adventuring. it makes sense coz the island koh lanta is a lil bit further from the mainland krabi airport..about 2 hr ride+speedboat, but pretty near to phiphi.

it is not too bad..there ARE some tourist infrastructures around already. meaning you wont feel so robinson crusoed or left with too much of nothing to do...which some people may not like. there are at the beach where we stayed, cafes and massage huts along the beach. there are at the beach where we stayed, no go-go bars, touts and the likes. the cafes are mostly owned by the guesthouses and the guesthouses are mostly family owned enterprises and most are muslims! so it was defintitely easier food wise. and we stayed at the southern part of the island..the most populated part is the northern part.

since it is a little laidback here..the people were also very friendly. you really get to see the locals going on with their daily lives. the kids REALLY playing along the beach instead of peddling and trying to fish the tourists' dollars.

more information on koh lanta: lantainfo.com / kohlanta.net

place where we stayed: srilanta @ klongnin beach

sri lanta and koh lanta at a glance, reviewed here.

place where we would also stay: miami beach bungalows/inn .
we ate here most of the times. good service. clean place

place where we would love to stay: costa lanta @ long beach

there are a few good dive and snorkelling spots around the island..and most hotels and guesthouses here can arrange for a trip. we did a one day trip to koh rok to snorkell.. it was pretty good :)

................................................................................

i have uploaded the snorkelling trip photos..though no underwater shots...and the incredibly boring couple@resort type of poses photos at my multiply :)

Bed n Breakfast Club.Bangkok

we got back last evening! had dinner and soon after we or at least me knocked off right away till this morning..i was sooo tired..

we went to krabi-bangkok-chiangmai and then back to bangkok! the last night in bangkok, we went to bed(supper) not so early, hence not surprisingly got out of bed late!

the last days in bangkok were of course spent shopping!

round and round bangkok on a tuktuk looking for deals...until i think i got pretty much bazaaared out..but it still felt like it wasnt enough..and am so lucky to have her to show me around. she knows all the good places :)

and while the girls were shopping on our own, the guys got down to some serious business..looking for stocks to buy..stores to conquer..they did quite a job with their business dealings. so good that they got themselves a shopspace right away!

here's presenting faizal and faisel's new company in bangkok..new thai names with signboards and all! finally they could agree on that thai name.....

how's that? pornphaisal. best quality fabric. printed embroidery. wholesale and retail. signboard in english, thai and arabic summore! and definitely not in the porn industry okay!

*got a whole lot more of pics but will only do uploading into the multiply over the weekend....coz i got a lot more things to settle back home now :S

city wanderings...

we have about an hour to check out time...and this morning we were not planning anything much except rest and pack..and 1 hour to go..here i am..becoz the internet here is incredibly cheap.

we went about town yesterday..and nope, we DID NOT SHOP!!! hahahaa... the only thing we bought was food from the supermarket and a book from kinokuniya for the next leg of our trip later on this afternoon.

but it was still quite a good day out. we did the tourist stuffs like river ride, going round the grand palace, which we didnt enter..i kind of regret it a bit coz had been reading up about the monarchy here and i am very impressed. it was the king's birthday 2 days ago so there were a lot of writeups. then we walked to khao san and banglamphu area nearby..and got to a muslim hotel. in case you are tired by the idea of having only eggs and bread for breakfast at the other hotels here, the new world lodge hotel is muslim owned..so the breakfast there should be good. but we were there for lunch.

after lunch we went to the siam square area. wandered around there, the siam center and mbk..and escaped unscathed! yes, we didnt shop! the next destination was emporium..which has eerr..nice shops and a good supermarket..and i was very jakun coz it was here that i first see 3-D advertisments..they had flat screen tvs all around for the purpose of showing 3-D advertisements. we actually went to the emporium to go to the thai creative and design center. highly recommended. i am pretty impressed by the focus on design in this country. they had two exhibits, both equally wel-thought, and designed. do come here if you ever get tired of the siam sq area or need a break from shopping. its only a few stops away on the BTS.

as our plan was not to shop but soak in the city..we then headed to the playground! another cool place along the v nice sukhmuvit area. it's a big concept store... v cool place, kid of remind me like a mega blackjack. nothing exceptionally thai here except for the thai designed fashion ware, but it was still an enjoyable trip if only to browse and gawk and kill time at the bookstore here.

but this was pretty near our dinner place. we went to usman restaurant, its beside the imperial queens hotel. its pretty near the emporium mall as well. v good food and v nice friendly smiley service.

bangkok is a 3 C city. cheap chic cool. but at the end of the day, i think i got pretty overwhelmed by it already. and we got a bangkok by night city tour courtesy of the taxi driver whom i think was trying to ketuk us by going by a very long route..

so i guess its time for us to move on..and we are...our train leaves the bangkok hualampong station at 2:30 pm later...and its going to be a pretty long ride..

the city of angels

hi hi,

we are now in bangkok. its thai name is krungthep which means city of angels. we took a pleasant domestic flight by thai airways and reached here last evening.

its been pleasant so far as well. we have experienced the not so pleasant traffic but not so much the smog coz partly we are staying beside the chao phraya river..so the lil disturbances so far has been the noise from the ferries that plough down the river. i know, not a convenient spot for shopping..but we'll do shopping later at the second leg of the stay here.

we wandered around this area and downtown, specifically pratunam, last evening..and felt a bit lost..hahahh because the street signs were mainly in thai..were searching specifically for halal food, and it was getting difficult when the husband blurted out "Just hope we find a makcik wearing a tudung" and lo and behold, few steps later we found a shop with a macik pakai tudung..hahahha. it was a muslim family runned bookshop and right at the front they have a make shift food stall/cart. the food cart has a halal sign on its glass front cover. so that's where we had dinner. for 70 baht for two- 'flied lice' and pepsi :)

no pics now coz the computer at this internet cafe doesnt read the camera somehow..

and i have to go..the place where we are staying have arranged for a river boat ride... and it should be ready by now.

@sri lanta

ho ho...

am now at koh lanta yai. that's the big lanta island. where is it? very few know where it is but that is well and good for us.

i am now taking advantage of the free internet service at the lounge of sri lanta after i have asked the husband to go watch his king's speech being shown on tv. sri lanta is a pretty nice rustic place, almost like a packaged place for the overgrown backpacker. not that we are now or those who stay here..

the connection's v slow here so i'll try to make it as brief for now.

we are not in india, because of more than many reasons. we had TWO plans for india. the second was the glider plan which got cancelled only a few days before we were to set for it. got a call from the india side that the weather was unsuitable due to a freak extension of the moonsoon..oh well..

so therefore here we are in the kingdom of siam.

koh lanta is a nice place. not very convenient to get here but well worth the trip if you plan for a relaxing and easy holiday. its a muslim island so halal food is very easy, just right out at the doorstep. there are no go-go bars, no katoeys no ladyboys. no touts to hassle you. its laidback but exciting enough with many beach cafes with fire twirlers and fireshows to keep you warm on a chilly night by the beach like tonight. it reminds me a bit like perhentian only with a lesser beach and koh phangan only with a more genteel and mature crowd. and no fullmooning of course here.

ciao for now :)

move in mysterious ways
