fasting & the body

this ramadan, i have developed some interest in what and how people have their sahur and buka..

it has to be due to my interest in what goes in the tum-tum..or rather the digestive system..coz i had the opportunity to see what was in mine (prior to ramadan i had some laxatives to clean the colon)..and it was unpleasant.

anyway, i found out that i can survive very well by just having my muesli with yogurt in the mornings for sahur. actually i prefer that to rice..coz if i have rice for sahur and then get into my 30 min quick nap after sahur..i will wake up feeling bloated and really tembam and chubby in the face.

so today i did some googling and found this very interesting post on our body and ramadan fasting. very long but interesting

i cant wake up for sahur. one week has passed, and ive not been able to wake up for any single sahur session! is that good or bad? no, i dont get hungry, and no, i dont eat that much either during iftar. and i dont eat before going to bed.

no, i am not dieting, but yes, it seems like i should be losing weight if i keep up with this practice. but unfortunately, no. i seem to be gaining back what id lost from the trekking.

the idiom "bapak borek anak rintik" has proven to be true in my case... "bapak bulat, anak mampat" LOL LOL LOL.

Hmmmm
So...I've been eating the right foods for sahur all these while after all!
I always have weetbix, milk and fruits (including dates).
Anyway I think it helps if you eat foods with a low GI (glycemic index). The higher the GI, the faster your sugar level will drop, thus making you feel faint and hungry. So eating foods with lower GIs will help to maintain blood sugar levels throughout the day.
I think lotsa foods imported from Australia have got GI labels, so it helps.

raraavis,

you need US dollars in small currencies (plenty of $1 notes and max $5), and lots of Dong. better to bargain with Dong as the amounts can be reduced. but you cant reduce a $1 item to 80cents... cos they dont carry change. dont get ripped off, many touts there. start bargaining from 1/4 of real price, and negotiate upwards to half. the "correct" price to pay usu half of the orig asked. cheers.
