food for thought
the last few days, since my MIL was not in, we have been eating a lot of meat. particulary red meat. my MIL's meat of choice has always been fish. she is particular about what she cooks for the family and fish for her is the healthiest meat. i have to say i am thankful that i have food prepared for me and appreciate it that she has the family's health in mind when she cooks but we have been having so much of that with vegetables that sometimes i do have craving for meat.
and yesterday, we had asked the domestic helper (on loan) to prepare daging masak kicap. the stew was so delicious coated with glistening oil (something my MIL wouldnt actually aprrove) which makes the beef even tastier, i had saved some for today to have for my lunch...
so i truly love my beef. i eat meat. i know i once said i wanted to try to be a vegetarian, but it's difficult. i only can cut down on chicken (which i dont like for many reasons) but red meat, i'll eat.
one thing that crossed my mind and disturbed me as i chewed on the beef last night, was a report or rather news i read last month on the banning of australian beef to malaysia.
let's just say i am pro-animal welfare (hence also a big reason why i dont like chicken). and as what said of the ban, i read somewhere that pure halal ritual slaughter prohibits stunning so its pretty worrying to know that some approved abbatoirs practice stunning.
makes me wonder what our MUIS's requirements are for halal slaughter of lifestocks.
