beyond pos II the terrain and vegetation changed again. it got cooler so it was easier to go up. the vegetation changed from tropical rainforest to more ferns less trees and with the mist, it looked a bit like a scene from LOTR.

up to this point, i was still fine. i have a pretty decent stamina and endurance for long runs normally but faizal the smoker was getting a bit tired. or maybe he was still in a bit of a shock.

the pic shows where we camped out the first night. it was cold and misty when we got here. so we stayed inside the tent most times while waiting for dinner.





at this point i shall write about our guides. we felt quite lucky we got on quite well with them. mas agus and mas nuhsin. nuhsin is the more contemplative and 'intellectual' one who has an affinity for history . after dinner, we sat infront of the campfire and he told us the history of the island and mt rinjani. he likes to read so we gave him our copy of national geographic which had a special feature of flores (a nearby island).



nuhsin has a kid who likes peter pan the band. nuhsin liked to sing with agus along the hike. agus is from java actually. is divorced and has a kid. they make a quite a pair, nuhsin and agus as agus liked to tease nuhsin ...

how do we know so much? coz the lombok people are very warm and friendly. along the hike and trip, many stopped to ask us about our trip, where we are from and wished us all the best for the remaining journey.
